At the end of the second term, the Primary School Serviam Club went to Witkoppen Clinic to hand over donations of knitted teddy bears and baby products.

Prudence from Witkoppen Clinic was over-joyed with these donations. She took the time to introduce our girls to the paediatrician on duty. Prudence encouraged two Serviam girls to give two mothers waiting to see a doctor, a teddy bear for their babies. It was a delightful experience where the Serviam Girls learnt the value of serving our community and the Ethos we instil at Brescia House School.

Over the weekend, our junior debating teams went head to head in the semi-final round with the contentious debate: This House Would Legalise the Sale of Rhino Horn, ultimately sending Brescia Green through to the finals where they debated whether or not individuals with business interests should hold executive government positions. Meagan was awarded best speaker in this debate.

Our senior's semi-final round was unanimously called with a 5-nil win and slated as the one of the best debates the adjudicator had ever chaired; the topic for the debate was: This House Supports Slum Tourism, with the info slide: slum tourism is when tourists visit an impoverished country to see how the impoverished live and experience life. The seniors final topic: This House Believes that Government Should Heavily Subsidise Internet Data, resulted in a highly contentious debate, of which the outcome was deliberated for almost 40 min.

We are very proud of our girls and the efforts they have dedicated to debating, these achievements speak for themselves and exemplify the dedication and effort our girls have committed to this sport.

Furthermore, both Mutsa and Minana were ranked 9th in Gauteng on their Junior Speaker scores, and Genevieve was ranked 3rd over-all. These are amazing achievements for the girls.

In response to the girls' back to back achievements in Both SACEE and GDL Debating the coaches had this to say:

"We want to send a strong message of congratulations to everyone who did SACEE and GDL this year. You've done more than what any coach could have asked for. You won 2/4 trophies. You placed 5 speakers in Top Ten. You placed 4/4 teams into Gauteng Provincial Debating. That's an opportunity for 20 girls to be selected to speak on the Gauteng Provincial Team."

We are beyond proud of our girls. Thank you for all your hard work.

On Thursday 3rd August the high school held their inter-house winter sports day. We started with netball, followed by hockey. During the break the girls enjoyed some informal inter-house dancing and war cry competitions. The day ended with some very entertaining soccer matches.

It has been a busy week for our Ursuline Conference delegates so far. Tuesday started with a panel discussion about the challenges of reconciliation, justice and peace in education. This was followed by a trip to Constitution Hill where delegates were addressed by Sr Maureen Welch. Sr Maureen's talk focussed on 'Listening to the Signs of the Times – The UN's Agenda 2030: A Pathway to Peace'. It was a most inspiring talk that lead to much further discussion over dinner at Moyo.

Yesterday the delegates were fortunate to hear Professor Adam Habib talk about the challenges faced by educational institutions. The second speaker of the day was Pepe Marais and he challenged the audience to 'take ownership' of their lives and to find their life strategy. The afternoon's discussions ended with Inspire Groups during which delegates could choose to attend workshops that most suited their interest. To end a busy day, they participated in a drumming workshop followed by a traditional South African braai!

We are all looking forward to another eventful and inspiring day today at our sister school, St Ursula's.

The grade 2 girls have been working on the theme of birthdays. The girls worked in groups and had to choose a party theme, decorate their own party tables and dress up for the party. Such a fun way to learn how to work as a team.
