Fund raising for Ursuline Water project

In 2010, the Ursuline General Council adopted four Ursuline Africa Water projects for a special fund-raising effort - two of them are in Botswana. In April last year, Mr Garcia travelled to Botswana to visit the Ursuline sisters working there and to learn about their current projects.

Project Sediba aims to provide home water supply to 50- 60 Basarwa San households in three nearby communities. The project was busy with registering each plot for a certificate from the Land Use Board, so that each family could then apply to the Water Utilities Commission, for its own connection. The second project, Pula Sefhare, is intended to assist with the development of permaculture gardens used to supplement their family food supplies.

Over the past 6 months, the 2013 matric Geography girls have held two fundraising events in aid of the Botswana Water Project. These two events were the Blue Ribbon Day in August last year and the Money Mile along the Atrium Floor during the last week of school in December. We are proud to say that we raised R2100! This is more than we could have ever imagined. Thank you so much to every girl that gave in their donation; your small amount of money has changed a person’s life.

On Monday 11th February, the matric Geography class handed over this money to Sister Dianne, the head of the Ursuline Sisters in Southern Africa, who will then use the money to help the families in Botswana. We hope that our small donation can make a difference.
