Grade 9 camp at Dimalachite

The Grade 9s spent the first 3 days of term 2 at Dimalachite River Lodge and Resort on the Vaal River. We drove through the gates filled with anticipation and excitement. Upon arrival, we chose cabins which each had kitchens and en-suite bathrooms. Our first activity was a teambuilding exercise where we had to complete several tasks. On our first night, we went on a solitude walk, where we had to follow a piece of string tied to trees leading the way. Although, this was a scary activity it taught us to believe in ourselves and never give up.

The following day, we went on a long hike over one of the many hills created by the meteorite that hit the area millions of years ago. The hike was a highlight for many and a great experience in nature. In the afternoon, we completed a mud obstacle course which was lots of fun.

Our nights at Dimalachite were spent around a log fire where we reflected on the day and talked about our strengths and weaknesses.

Dimalachite Camp was a great experience where many of us tried new things, learnt more about ourselves, and bonded as a grade.
