Monday, 15th April 2019 - The day's sequence was:

Presentation in the St Ursule Primary School hall/chapel to the Grade 5 pupils who also presented information about Paris to the Brescia House School girls. The pupils from St Ursule are learning about hospitality and so they made a very good effort to speak to the girls in English.

Trip around the St Ursule Primary School with the Gr 5 pupils as guides followed by lunch in the canteen.

The girls walked a few blocks to the St Ursule High School - there they met the group from a school from Boston, Massachusetts - these girls are at St Ursule on a French exchange. This was followed by a presentation by a Muslim professor on the Islam viewpoint on the conservation of the earth and its people - pupils from St Ursule, Boston and Brescia House attended the presentation. Brescia House School then presented their school in Johannesburg to the pupils from St Ursule and Boston as well as a group of Grade 10 pupils from St Ursule.

Yesterday, the Brescia House girls experienced a most poignant day in Paris – they travelled via the Metro to visit the site of the Eiffel Tower and walked, together with 1000s of Parisians and tourists, past the devastating sight of Notre Dame following the fire that has led to the collapse of the central ceiling. A Mass for Holy Tuesday was celebrated at St Ursule and our girls played a vital role in the Mass. We are proud of our girls being such wonderful ambassadors for the school and wish them well as they continue their global exchange.

There was so much excitement this morning when the Grade Rs got to school. The Easter Bunny had come earlier, knocked over paint and left little footprints on the floor, windows and even across their desks. Lucky for the Grade Rs, he also left them each a little treat in their baskets.

Brescia House School was awarded overall winner of the Senior Section of this year's Public Speaking Festival. This means that Brescia House School had the best Prepared Guild Team Speakers from Grades 10-12 in the whole of Johannesburg. This is a most commendable achievement.

In addition to this, on 12 April, Avril Magauri participated in the Speech and Drama College's finalists event. She participated as an individual speaker against 4 other schools. There were 64 individual speaker entrants, and Avril was selected to compete amongst the top 5 for the winning spot as the best individual prepared and impromptu public speaker in Johannesburg.

Avril delivered her 5 minute prepared speech on the topic 'blame' and delivered an insightful impromptu speech on the subjective nature of truth.

Avril was awarded runner up in the competition, this making her the second best Guild individual public speaker in all of Johannesburg. Well done Avril!

The St Andrews netball festival was one to remember! Although we were faced with terrible weather conditions and ended up playing at the Edenvale indoor sports arena, the girls adapted quickly and played well. After the first two days of tight matches the team with six new players started to gel and we started winning all our games. We made it to the finals of the bowl pool. In the finals the girls gave their all and we ended up taking home silver. This is an amazing result, especially for a brand new team. Well done girls!
