Today we were proud to present an honours blazer to Victoria Lavelle. Victoria is loyal to her school and is respected and admired by her peers and staff. She has been a committed member of the equestrian team over the past five years.

Victoria recently represented South Africa at the FEI World Jumping Challenge. SASCOC awarded her with Equestrian Junior Protea Colours for the 2019 FEI World Jumping Challenge Final held in Ecuador last month.

In 2019, as a result of her dedication to the school's equestrian team and having represented South Africa in Ecuador against 16 countries she is awarded a white honours blazer.

Congratulations to Victoria.

At the 6th annual Little Charmers Show, Nicole Daubern was crowned Miss Teen Charity 2019 for all her efforts in raising funds for the Cotton-on Foundation. Nicole won a R3000 Toys R Us voucher which she kindly decided to donate to CHOC in the hope that it would go towards gifts for some of the little ones who will be spending Christmas in hospital.

Brescia House School is very proud of her efforts to help those in need. Nicole, you really do live the Serviam motto by serving others – thank you.

Emma Williamson recently took part in City Rocktober. All competitors took part in the qualifying rounds, and then the top 5 men and women (across all age groups) in each category were selected for the finals.

Emma did the qualifying rounds for top rope and boulder. Her points for the top rope qualifier were in the top 5 overall, giving her a place in the finals. She competed in the top rope finals against three other women all over 18. Competition was close but Emma was awarded first place. Congratulations Emma.

The SACEE Creative Writing Competition is open to all secondary school learners in South Africa and the adjudicator of the competition is the highly-respected South African novelist, Jane Fox.

This year, entries were submitted from over 30 schools from around the country, so congratulations to the following girls who were awarded participation certificates for their entries: Aashna Beepan, Jessica Frohlich, Josephine Harty, Lugile Gumbo- Aikhuere and Kaylee Botha.

We are also enormously proud of Justine Duncan on being awarded 1st place for her short story entry into this year's competition. At a special awards ceremony which was held at King David Victory Park on Thursday evening last week, Justine was awarded 1st place in the Junior Short Story category, achieving a Platinum certificate, and special mention was made of her entry. The adjudicator, Jane Fox, commented on how controlled her fantasy genre-based writing was and how wonderfully her empowered female villain character was constructed; she especially loved the joke at the end and commended Justine on her wonderful voice, writing style and commitment to storytelling.

Congratulations, Justine, on this wonderful achievement!

The grade 12 girls enjoyed their final practical assessment of the year this past week. The practical required them to find the percentage of ethanoic acid in a sample of commercial vinegar. This involved them having to make up a standard sodium hydroxide solution followed by titrating the standard solution with the ethanoic acid solution.
