World Read Aloud Day (3 February 2021)

The Grade 6s were celebrating World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) 2021 during their reading lessons today, 3 February 2021. WRAD is an annual event which takes place on the first Wednesday of February. The main purpose of WRAD is to encourage people around the world to celebrate the joy of reading aloud. LitWorld, founded by literacy expert Pam Allyn, launched the first WRAD in 2010. The Grade 6s are eager to read their books which include classics such as “The Railway Children” and “The Secret Garden” as well as “The Borrowers” and “Wonder”. “Our girls are loving the opportunity to read together in socially distanced groups. They are exploring texts and authors which they might not choose for themselves, as well as developing their reading skills and vocabulary,” said Mrs Wendy Sauthoff, Grade 6 English Teacher.
