Grade R Measurement

The Grade R girls have continued to learn about our beautiful rainbow nation South Africa this week as we began our exciting safari trip into the African wild. After discussing all the different wild animals that live in the game reserve, the girls measured and compared the sizes of the wild animals using unifix blocks. Before children are introduced to Standard Measurement using rulers and measuring tapes, they need to understand what measuring is all about. To build a deep understanding of measurement and the skills they need to measure properly, children need to learn how to measure using non-standard units of measurement. This activity was done in pairs, and it was wonderful to watch the teamwork that went on as the girls measured blown up pictures of different wild animals. #Math #Measuring
