Happy Valentine’s Day
The Grade R girls had such fun coming to school in red, pink, and white to celebrate Valentine’s Day today. We spoke about giving the gift of love to all our family and friends and that showing love can be a gift that lasts for a lifetime.
The girls loved threading beads in a pattern to make a Valentine’s bracelet. Why is threading a vital skill in Grade R?
hand-eye co-ordination and control of the muscles of the hand and fingers. Threading is an excellent way to strengthen the finger muscles and learn to control the fingers as they work together. Bilateral co-ordination: When stringing beads, a child must learn to hold the bead with one hand while controlling the string with the other. Patterning: Pattern is about seeing connections and making links. Through understanding patterns, children learn to make predictions, to understand what comes next, to make logical connections.Meanwhile, the grade 2 girls learnt about the artist Wassily Kandinsky . The colour wheel and experimenting with mixing of colours was lots of fun. They painted hearts in time for Valentine’s Day.
All across the school the pupils celebrated in their colourful Valentine’s Day outfits, while the Matric Dance Valentine’s Day Fundraiser added some extra cheer to the day with beautiful balloons and roses.
