St Angela's Feast Day

Today we celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Angela Merici - Foundress of the Order of Ursuline Sisters and patroness of Ursuline Schools.

Angela Merici was a woman who realised the importance of a thorough Christian education for the young women of her time. We are blessed with her spirit and ideals, which live on in Brescia House School and all the Ursuline Schools throughout the world.

Our Grade R girls loved learning all about St Angela this morning. They learnt that St Angela was an orphan when she was very young. She spent her life caring for poor girls. Many women helped her to do this work and people called this group of women “The Ursuline sisters.” The Grade Rs used their listening skills to listen carefully to the story of Saint Angela of Merici. They then used their fine-motor skills to tear small pieces of blue paper to fill the “A” for Angela. They completed their letters by using their patterning skills to write their names and trace over the word Angela Merici.

The Intermediate Phase pupils enjoyed a walkabout in their Serviam Sisterhood groups, discovering and learning more about the Catholic and Ursuline landmarks on the school campus.

In the High School, the girls all brought bread and jam and made sandwiches to be distributed to the less fortunate.

After a beautiful, celebratory mass, the entire school enjoyed some treats while the staff had a special tea with Sister Jeanette.
