The Crowning of Mary
The Crowning of Mary is a ritual celebrated in the month of May where an image or statue of Mary is crowned with a wreath of flowers. The month of May is considered to be a time for new beginnings and the chance to begin a new season, for us in the Southern Hemisphere the season of winter, with gratitude and devotion.
At Brescia House School this event was held on Wednesday, 25 May at the start of the school day and the service was conducted by the Mrs Booyse and the Spirituality Committee. The High School Morning Devotion took place in front of the school grotto that holds our statue of Mary. The service contained special prayers and Marian hymns. Representatives of the SEL groups placed flowers at the statue of Mary and a crown of flowers was placed on the head of the statue of Mary.
The service coincided with the Wacky Wednesday theme of “Wear anything but a blazer” and so the colourful attire of the high school students added to the beautiful colours of the flowers placed in love at the feet of the statue of Mary.
O God, you have given us Mary, the mother of Jesus, to encourage and teach us on our way to union with you. Let her life of loving obedience and humble prayer be a beacon of light and hope for us as we seek to follow your Son, Jesus. Amen.
