Billion Rising 2023
Over the past few weeks, our Brescia House School staff have been holding lessons and discussions with students about why we all need to stand together in solidarity and work for a better life for women and children across the world. Discussions have centred around learning more about children’s rights and responsibilities, keeping safe, speaking out when people are hurt, learning to stand up against bullies, learning about child abductions and child labour. On Tuesday, 14 February, the whole school gathered on the lawns in the shape of a handprint, representing each of us as humans. ‘No matter our race, creed, gender, religion, language or age, we need to treat everyone in our path with kindness and dignity,’ said Liz Norman.Every year, since 2013, Brescia House School has supported the One Billion Rising event, in hope for a future where all women, children and the earth flourish in a joyful symbiosis. When women and girls feel safe in their bodies, they come into their power. Launched on Valentine’s Day in 2012, One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. Brescia House School joined the movement in February 2013, and has continued to support the Billion Rising campaign ever since.
