Dr Chaland van Zyl
We are proud to announce that Brescia House School Educational Psychologist, Chaland van Zyl, has officially been awarded her Doctorate in this field from the University of Johannesburg.
In Chaland’s qualitative study, thematic content analysis was used to establish an understanding of the ethical dilemmas faced by psychologists working within school settings. The study investigated the sufficiency of existing ethical decision-making models for psychologists working in schools. From her research, Chaland developed ethical decision-making guidelines for school-based psychologists which took into account the unique South African setting. The study has provided insight into the lived experience of school psychologists, in addition to ethical dilemmas experienced within this work setting. Furthermore, the study has provided school psychologists with guidelines for ethical decision-making that take their unique setting, expectations, and important cultural considerations into account.
Chaland also serves as a board member for SAALED (The Southern Africa Association for Learning and Educational Differences), an NPO whose vision it is to facilitate the promotion and implementation of inclusive education through information, support, collaboration, advocacy and training. Dr van Zyl, you are an inspiration to our girls, and we couldn’t be more proud to have you as part of our Brescia House School family.
